Bambara Groundnuts (Vigna subterranea) – this West African native legume is in the same genus as southern peas (Vigna unguiculata), but they form seeds underground in the same way as peanuts (Arachis hypogaea).
OUR WORK
2020 is the first year The Utopian Seed Project will be working with Bambara Groundnuts. We have received 6 varieties from the USDA GRIN genebank and are looking forward to seeing how they grow in Western North Carolina. If successful we will be hosting a taste testing with Chef BJ Dennis in Charleston SC. So watch this space!
